- How Do You Handle Laundry?
The Laundry Clutter Recently, I posted about decluttering typical areas such as the kitchen and entryway, but as I separated laundry earlier this morning, I thought to myself, "Laundry Clutter is the true meaning of clutter!" Laundry and clothing are significant contributors to clutter. It's been an active July so far, juggling my house cleaning business while my staff is on vacation, attending nationals in Las Vegas for the youth athlete in the family, and then coming home to a mountain of laundry. My business also offers laundry service in addition to house cleaning, so I was accustomed to always doing the laundry. But now, it's time to outsource, and I'm not talking about sending it out of the country. It starts within the household. The best advice I can give is to do laundry daily. Here are a few tips to tame your Laundry Clutter and keep your areas clear and organized: TIP #1: CALL A FAMILY MEETING My household was not happy being awakened for a family meeting on a summer morning, but I knew if I didn't do it then, I might not get another chance as we approach a new school year. They were quite the lion roarers, I might add. Sit down with your kids and explain that doing their laundry shouldn't be your sole responsibility. It truly isn't rocket science...well, once it's managed, anyway. Support them and guide them. If they've never lifted a shirt off the ground, chances are the laundry room is foreign to them, and they've never washed or dried clothes. I know, I make it sound easier said than done. Believe me, it was like pulling teeth in my household, but I reminded them, "This is your house too!" TIP #2: CLEAR OUT THE CLOTHES THAT DON'T FIT Kids' clothes that don't fit contribute to laundry piles. The first step is for YOU to clear out one drawer for each family member to make putting things away much easier. Notice the caps on YOU. Don't leave this to the kids. If you do, you might just end up with one sock. Then, figure out what fits each kid. Make a pile of the clothes that do not fit and drop them off at your local Goodwill or St. Vincent de Paul. Remember, your junk is someone else's treasure. Don't forget to get your tax-deductible receipt! TIP #3: ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN A LAUNDRY ROUTINE Once you declutter the clothing, laundry will be more efficient. After the clothes are laundered, the sorting and putting away steps are crucial for keeping your home tidy. My kids often put on an outfit for the day, decide on something else, and the tried-on clothes get thrown on the floor, mixed with the dirty clothes, or piled on the beds, chairs, desks, in corners of the room, or dressers. Their rooms end up looking like clothes exploded into confetti. Okay, I'm a little guilty of this at times too. Eventually, clean and dirty clothes get mixed up, doubling your laundry load. Show them how to separate colors, use detergents, run the washer and dryer, how to fold clothes (yes, how to fold clothes properly is a thing), and put away their clothes, whether on hangers or in dressers. Some family members might place a load as part of their bedtime routine and then transfer it to the dryer as part of their morning routine. A daily routine will bring you peace. I hope these tips aid in transforming your Laundry Magnet from disorder to organization. It's a win-win with family effort, everything in its place, and kids easily finding what they need, bringing peace to your household...at least when it comes to laundry. - Spotless Secrets Exposed
Welcome to Spotless Secrets, your ultimate guide to achieving a pristine and organized home! I'm Renee, the founder of AAA Housecleaners, and I've been in the house cleaning business since 2007. With over 15 years of experience, I've seen it all when it comes to cleaning challenges and solutions. My passion for maintaining spotless spaces has driven me to master efficient cleaning techniques and discover the most effective products and methods. Through this blog, I'm excited to share my expertise with you, offering practical tips and insights that will make your cleaning routine easier and more effective. The Clutter Magnet We all have that one spot (mine happens to be in the kitchen) where everything seems to accumulate such as mail, keys, papers, random gadgets, and more. I call this the "Clutter Magnet." It's the go-to place for everything that doesn't have a designated home, and it can quickly become overwhelming. Here are a couple of tips to tame your Clutter Magnet and keep your areas clear and organized: Tip #1 - Identify the Clutter Magnet The first step is to identify where your Clutter Magnet is located. In our home, we have a couple of areas that have settled in cozily. It’s usually near the entrance to the kitchen or on the kitchen counter. Take a good look at what tends to pile up there. Tip #2 - Declutter Regularly Make it a habit to declutter this area daily. I started off with just five minutes each evening sorting through items, and it made a big difference. Decide what needs to be kept, thrown away, or put elsewhere. Implement a sorting system using trays, baskets, or small bins to manage items that typically land on the Clutter Magnet. For example, use a tray for mail, a basket for keys and small gadgets, and a bin for miscellaneous items. Install hooks for keys, a mail organizer for letters and bills, and a dedicated drawer for small gadgets. This way, everything has a designated place, making it easier to keep the counter clear. Lastly, shred papers with personal information or those not so important, and trash the rest! "Tidying is the act of confronting yourself." Marie Kondo. Find Peace Owning a cleaning service doesn’t exempt me from being human. I know firsthand how challenging it can be to stay organized and declutter regularly. It's a real struggle! Between managing a bustling household with kids involved in every sport imaginable, juggling training sessions and workouts, and balancing work both in the office and from home, finding peace can often feel like a distant goal. Despite the chaos, there’s nothing quite like coming home to find everything in its place. This rewarding feeling not only reduces stress but also helps me maintain my sanity, knowing exactly where everything is when I need it. By following these steps, you can transform your Clutter Magnet from chaos to order. Not only will your space look tidier, but you'll also find it easier to locate essentials and maintain clean counters.
